I’m On Vacation!: Writing Prompts

Friends! I’m on vacation right now with my life partner and my sister! We’re off to one of my favorite cousin’s weddings!

While I was racking my brain thinking about what I could post as a blog, I realized I hadn’t written a writing prompt blog in A LIFETIME.

Summer tends to be rather crazy. Between shaking off the dust from hibernation, family reunions, countless other social obligations, and (for those of you with children) the summer holidays, it’s hard to find time to sit down and write. I don’t know about you, but after prolonged stints away from the laptop, I feel like I completely forgot how to ride the metaphorical bike.

So, let’s limber up these typing fingers and get warmed up for our return to writing!

Prompts

  • You’re on vacation when you happen to run into the one who got away/an unexpected love interest/the person of your dreams, but you grabbed the wrong suitcase off the conveyer belt. The rest of the vacation, you have to wear someone else’s clothes. It wouldn’t be that big of a deal, except you’re trying to win over your romantic interest. In Grandpa Gerald’s canary-yellow Hawaiian shirt.
  • You’re on a road trip with your best frenemy when the car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. It turns out, the real destination was this small town no one has ever heard of. It’s there you find real love (with the frenemy perhaps? Or maybe it’s the dreamy country bumpkin who has been making eyes at you since you arrived?).
  • Cruise ships are a lot smaller than you think. You ran into your ex on the cruise you were planning on taking together. They’re with their new lover, and you’re… well, terribly alone. Until you happen to find a stunning stranger with no ring on their finger. It was supposed to be a quick pretend relationship that died the duration of the awkward conversation, but this is a small ship. And you see your ex everywhere. It looks like you’re committed for the rest of the two week cruise!
  • It’s been years since you broke up. Everything should be fine, right? You’re not going to see them if you go back to your favorite place… right? But then you do. So, the real question is: what happens next?
