Planet of Lies: Vunerth
Zenya Cobb has had enough of a traditional life with her husband-to-be, Pavell. She returns to her life as a space pirate, setting out to find and claim as much gold and other treasures as she can.
Except, due to a freak accident, she crash-lands on a planet that shouldn’t exist – The mythical lost planet of Vunerth, reputed to have been the galaxy’s richest spot until an asteroid destroyed it many years ago. But it’s still very much around and holds more secrets than even Zenya can imagine. She meets the mysterious natives, a peaceful alien community of traders with their own secrets and hears whispers of conspiracy. Could Vunerth’s disappearance be part of a web of darkness perpetuated by the government?
While Zenya reels, her determined partner, Pavell chases her across the galaxy. But when they are reunited, they must make a choice. Leave this bizarre planet in their past and return to a life of peace, or risk their lives teaming up with the natives to save the planet and expose an intergalactic lie?
More About Planet of Lies!
What was the inspiration for this book?
I have no idea, really. It sort of started with a character design concept for an alien and spiralled from there.
What comes first for you: the title or the story?
The story, or bits of it, anyway.
Speaking of titles, how did you come up with your book’s title?
Well, this one had a placeholder title that was eventually swapped out for one that came from my X followers.
Are you a planner or a pantster?
Pantster all the way. I had no clue where this story was going!
How long did it take you to write this beauty?
I began working on it in November 2021, so around 16 months.
What did you learn about yourself while writing this book?
How much I’ve changed as a writer. I didn’t used to put so much effort into editing and re-reading. This book took the longest of all of my works to produce.
Obviously, this book is absolutely perfect, but what would you like to improve on as a writer in general?
I’d like to be better at writing short stories. Somehow my shorter works always disappoint me.
What do you want people to take away from your book?
A feeling of having had a fun journey with the characters.
What do you love most about this book?
The worlds I created. It’s my first-time world-building and I enjoyed it so much.
Lastly, what do you want to say to your potential readers?
Enjoy the book! Please remember to review!
Q&A With Ellie Jay
Obviously, the natural first question is to ask you what got you into writing. But my real question is: what made you decide to publish?
I had already written my first work before I published. I posted it on some writing sites in various forms over the years, but never did anything serious with it. However, I did talk to my family about it. They were so sweet and supportive. Ultimately, publishing was my mother’s idea, and going down the indie route was my grandfather’s suggestion.
Did you ever publish the first book you wrote? If yes, tell us about it. If not, tell us about it anyway!
I did! It is a crime thriller called ‘Family Secrets’ and it actually inspired a full trilogy.
What is your favorite part of writing?
Just letting my imagination run wild.
What do you want your readers to take away from your work?
Nothing much, I just want them to be entertained.
If you could give any piece of advice to aspiring authors/writers, what would it be?
Keep writing! The only way to become a writer is to write. Even if you think what you’re working on at the moment is bad.
What does your writing set-up look like?
It’s just me, my PC, and a bottle of water beside me which I usually forget to drink out of.
And your writing process?
I don’t really have a ‘process’, I just get an idea and write. It’s a bit chaotic but somehow it all comes together.
When you’re not writing, what are you doing?
Swimming and walking during the summer. Sometimes playing video games. I’m also training to be a teacher, so that keeps me very busy.
What is the one story you’ve been desperate to tell?
I really, really, want to find some of the old ‘books’ I made as a child and re-write them from my adult perspective.
Why haven’t you told it yet?
I have no idea where in my house they are. They’re here somewhere!
Lastly, give us some of that good ol’ shameless self-promo. What can we expect to see from you in the future?
Well, my new book, Planet Of Lies: Vunerth, JUST became available to pre-order, and I’m already planning the sequel. There’s also an exciting plan for an omnibus edition of my series, complete with illustrations and bonus material in the works.
