I read Awakening Hearts a few months ago after having been connected with Angie K Love by our amazing editor/proofreader, Beth (vbproofreads.com). I had listened to Angie speak about her story before I had the privilege of holding the manuscript in my hands. I have to admit, I was in love with the idea of the story before I had even read a word of it.

And then I read it (you can read my full review on Awakening Hearts here)! I got to fall in love with two couples, and follow their journeys — I got to fall in love and hurt alongside them. And now, I have the privilege of reviewing Angie’s sequel, Awakening Souls. 

After Sage and Alex fall apart at the seams in Awakening Hearts, we are left with the sinking sensation that there is simply no chance of these two patching up their relationship. Alex has to come up against a lot to accept a romantic relationship with Sage — chiefly, wrestling with her identity as a Christian, and the doctrine that she grew up with. Awakening Souls starts with a chance to begin again, where Sage invites Alex on a vacation to Paris. Their rekindling romance sees some rocky points as Alex struggles to correct old behaviors (particularly, a healthier work-life balance). 

I won’t say too much for fear of spoiling the story, but this story is beautifully done. The writing and storytelling have improved tenfold from the first book. It’s clear that Angie has spent a lot of time honing her craft, and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next! 

Unlike the first book, Awakening Souls is written only from the perspective of Alex and Sage, though there are still nods to who they once were in a past life. If you’re someone who enjoys spiritual journeys and stories about healing and acceptance, you will absolutely love Awakening Souls.
