Review: Keagan by Remy Fisher

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Full transparency, Remy Fisher is a human-being who I absolutely adore. Her debut, Blaire’s Decision was actually the first book I ever review on this blog. All that being said, I am trying to take off my biased glasses to review this novella objectively. Which, fortunately, isn’t difficult! This novella is everything you could ask for in a short and sweet palette cleanser.

Anna was hired to take care of Keagan’s tough-as-nails mother. It doesn’t take long for Anna to fall in love with the Beckett Brothers Ranch, but the lingering question is whether that affection extends toward one Beckett Brother in specific. Keagan knows what he wants, and from the moment he met Anna, he knew he’d stop at nothing to show her what life on the ranch could be like.

Keagan, the first book in the Beckett Brothers Ranch series, is quite a quick read, coming in at 82 pages. I dove in only a few minutes after reading a heavier story and was so grateful for the palette cleanser. It was beautifully written, incredibly well-paced, and despite its brevity, it did an excellent job in creating a romance that we (the readers) would care about.

It somehow straddles the line of “insta-love/lust” and slow-burn. We felt an immediate magnetism between the characters, and were embroiled in Anna’s hesitancy. It created an air of suspense in what could have been a rather straight-forward “boy meets girl” story.

I will say that if you’re someone who likes longer, drawn out scenes, this may not be the story for you. Fisher relies a lot on “recapping” some pinnacle moments in the story. For example, when our heroine learns some life-changing information, we are not privy to the conversation. We’re told about it in the aftermath. Which, for the sake of keeping this story short and sweet was a good decision on Remy’s part. That all being said, I can understand how that may not be for some readers. So, please be advised if you pick this novella up for yourself.

All in all, if you’re looking for a real-life cowboy romance that’s short, sweet, and a bit spicy, this will be the perfect book to add to your collection! Congratulations, Remy! You did it again!
